How do I know what size door handle to get?

Measure from the edge of the door to the centre of the door knob or handle. The industry standards are usually either 44mm / 57mm / 82mm / 107mm / 130mm. Ideally you will try and choose the backset measurement that sites the door handle in the middle of the door stile.

Can you change the handle on a upvc door?

Handles for upvc doors are usually held in place by two screws so taking them apart and re-fitting is not difficult at all.

Is it easy to replace a uPVC door handle?

Installing a new uPVC door handle is just as easy as it was removing your old one. Firstly you will put in your new spindle, once this is done you’re ready to put on the new handle and screw it into place making sure you do not over-tighten the screws. Your new handle should now be installed.

Are most front door handles standard size?

What is PZ lock?

The PZ is the distance from the centre of the spindle hole to the centre of the euro cylinder hole as shown in the image below. In the example above the gearbox is a twin spindle gearbox which means it has multiple PZ measurements.

How do I identify a door handle?

If you stand to the outside of your door and the hinge is on your right then you would need a right-handed handle. If the hinge is to your left then you need a left-handed handle.

What is the fixing Centre of a door handle?

Measure the distance between the two screws from the centre of each screw. This will give you your ‘fixing centres’ and is the measurement you need when buying your new handles. Are door knobs a standard size?

The standard size for a door knob diameter is either 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches and these knobs will usually fit doors that are anywhere between 1 3/8 inches to 1 3/4 inches thick.

Are door locks standard size?

In the United States, there are two common backsets for residential door locks: 2 3/8 inches and 2 3/4 inches. Pack your locks with a 2-3/8-inch or 2-3/4-inch latch, depending on which backset you specify. Dummy sets have no latch and are surface-mounted so you can install a dummy set wherever you choose on the door.
