The scissor door, hinging at the bottom of the windscreen pillar, was born. The first production car to feature them was Gandini’s 1974 Lamborghini Countach, hence why scissor doors are frequently called ‘Lambo doors’.
Why are doors called scissors?
The doors are characterized as scissors because instead of opening like regular car doors, they open upward and pivot at the front of the door, behind the fender, much like scissor blades. While you may think that scissor doors were created for styling purposes, there’s actually more to them than that.
